"The finest human quality is asking questions" - Mivchar Hapeninim

Our Mission Statement
Temple Shir Shalom is committed to empowering our families to live Jewish lives with a strong moral conscience. We want our students to develop a relationship with God through reverence for all that is holy and participation in Tikkun Olam (repairing our world), Tzedekah (charity) and G'milut Hasadim (acts of loving kindness). Accordingly, we are committed to teaching each generation to share the joy of our heritage by providing the opportunity to learn Jewish history, language and traditions. Jewish education is a life long process – through knowledge we encourage our students to embrace their Jewish identity, which includes love of Torah and an appreciation of their connection to the Jewish people. We hope to nurture the perpetuation of Jewish life and identity and to enable our youth to share the joy of our heritage.

Religious School meets for 25 Sunday morning sessions from 9:00 am - 12 noon for children in kindergarten through Bar/Bat Mitzvah age. Our school year runs from August to May, following the Seminole and Orange County school calendar.

We offer a creative environment that captures the children's interest and imagination in a hands-on approach to Jewish education.  Students participate and learn about “Tikkum Olam” (repairing the world), with a major school-wide mitzvah project each year, typically incorporated into our Art Program, plus a Tikkum Olam Day.  Hebrew studies are incorporated into the classroom curriculum for Kindergarten through 4th Grade and separate Hebrew instruction is provided for the upper grades.  Annual special events include a Chanukah Party, Tu B’Shevat Seder, Passover Model Seder and end of year Field Day as well as field trips.

Our Religious School Director, Robyn Schulman, brings a deep love of Judaism and wealth of knowledge to our school.  Our dedicated faculty is made up of knowledgeable and innovative teachers who making Jewish learning fun and engaging for all our students.  Our Cantorial Leader, Beth Schafer, also plays an active role with monthly parent participation programs and music.

We also offer a complete B’nei Mitzvah program which is coordinated by our Cantorial Leader, School Director and Education Chair.  We are very proud of the numerous students who complete our program year after year and serve as outstanding role models to our younger students by remaining active in Temple life.

Our religious school is a cooperative effort with parents expected to take an active role in their children’s Jewish education.  The Education Team welcomes parent involvement to help plan special events and help make decisions to ensure our religious school is the best it can be.

Religious school enrollment is open to Temple members only.  See below for our 2011-12 School Calendar and Registration Form (including tuition information) or contact our Education Dept. at education@templeshirshalom.org.
