SHFTY (Grades 6-12)

Attention families of TSS teens! Temple Shir Shalom offers a URJ affiliated teen program designed to connect our teens with their Reform Jewish peers from around the state and around the country. SHFTY (for teens grades 9-12) and Lil’ SHFTY (6-8) offer a platform for Judaic growth, community involvement, and social opportunity. Throughout the year, SHFTY and Lil’ SHFTY hold a variety of events meant to achieve these goals. From movie night to service leading, from bowling to Camp Jenny fundraising, SHFTY and Lil’ SHFTY accommodate the unique interests and learning styles of all of our members.

SHFTY and Lil’ SHFTY are associated with the URJ branch for youth engagement, NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth). NFTY is divided into 19 regions and SHFTY is a part of NFTY-STR (Southern Tropic Region) encompassing all of Florida south of Jacksonville and the Bahamas. NFTY-STR hosts regional events all around the state to unite all of the youth groups just like SHFTY. And once a year, NFTY-STR hosts an event specifically for middle schoolers. Also once annually, there is a leadership training event for youth group board members. In addition to these amazing weekends of learning and fun, NFTY-STR provides leadership opportunities through counselorship at Camp Jenny– a weekend long overnight camp for underprivileged elementary schoolers from Atlanta– and the ability to run for regional board.

SHFTY is proud to be a part of a region and a movement of strong leaders who represent the future of Reform Judaism.
